Maldita Castilla is a third-person action game that pays homage to classics such as Ghost n' Goblins, Tiger Road, Black Tiger, Shinobi, Rygar, Karnov, or Trojan. Consequently, it is a 2D action game and both the mechanics and the appearance are very similar to these games that appeared towards the end of the 80's.
Perhaps one of the most direct and apparent influences of Maldita Castilla is Ghost n' Goblins. In fact, right at the start you will notice certain similarities, with zombies coming out of the ground, and the main character's weapon, which isn't anything more than a javelin that you can throw as many times as you want.
In addition to all the action, the game includes some components of a platform game, and at times jumping from one ledge to another with precision will be absolutely necessary to keep advancing. That being said, you'll have to be very careful with the large amount of enemies that will try to kill you.
As mentioned at the beginning, graphically Maldita Castilla pays homage to the classics, so much so that in addition to having pixelated graphics, the game has an old monitor filter that never goes away. The soundtrack, composed by Grizor87, also fits perfectly into the action.
Maldita Castilla is an outstanding game, created from scratch by the Spaniard Locomalito, and distributed completely free--one of the best in the genre of 2D action and platform games that you can find.
